EXCLUSIVE INTERVIEW WITH DC CATHRO

Enjoy those behind the scenes interviews with the actors? We decided to do some interviewing of our own and see what the actors had to say about life, the production, and beer...

This month, we interviewed DC Cathro, who played Frank Demore in the film, as well as Sean Robinson (his interview can be found here).

Tell us a little about yourself: Where were you born? Where did you grow up? Hobbies & favorite pastimes?

i grew up in pg county here in maryland with 6 brothers and sisters. big mormon family. i collect old board games, and actually play them when i have the time and someone to play with! i have over 100 or so. mostly kitchy-type stuff...

How long have you been an actor? How'd you get interested and/or where'd you get your start?

i started in college when a friend cast me in a show. i was horrible, but i loved it and started hanging out with the theatre dorks until i became one. worked as a graphic design intern at a professional theatre and they hired me after graduation to do acting and design work, and it snowballed from there. i learned SO much at that job, it was incredibly enlightening.

How did you get interested in Hunting Dragonflies? When you auditioned, were you excited or scared?

i had done some extra work on big-budget films, and thought it was interesting so i wanted to actually try acting for film as opposed to stage. i remember thinking, at the audition, that i was reading for a part i had NO business reading for, but i was gonna give it my all. i hid behind a pillar in the greene room of a theatre and yelled a lot, hoping the offices upstairs wouldn't call the cops or something.

Are you signed on for the sequal? (wink, wink, nudge, nudge)

well, i'm currently negotiating my contract.

Did you get cold on set?

okay, the "set" was mostly outside in the dead of winter, so cold was an understatement. it was awful. freezing. except for the summer day that we had to shoot some pickup scenes, THAT was incredibly HOT. and lying face down in a cow pasture on a hot day is less than fun. it's fragrant. as for the beer, i had none. see the mormon comment above.

Was this your 1st time handling guns in a film?

yes, i wasn't real familiar with firearms before this film, so that too was an education.

I saw your name in the credits under "Additional Camera Operators" - did you really operate the camera?

yes indeed, i DID operate a camera once or twice. i also got to animal-wrangle a little bit, but i'm jumping ahead...

Were you scared of the cows/bulls/animals?

no, they wouldn't come near us at all. i wanted to ride one.

What was it like acting in front of a film camera versus a video camera?

pretty much the same to me, but i'm semi-inexperienced in film, so maybe i was doing it wrong.

As an actor, what kind of problems did you run into shooting an action film?

it could be pretty physical sometimes, which wasn't a problem, just a challenge. especially having to shoot a scene multiple times.

What was your most memorable moment on set?

the scene where i find... wait, i can't give it away. i find this THING in the barn...

How about your 2nd most memorable moment?

all the chocolate donuts.
